The Agent Skills specification defines a directory with a SKILL.md file containing YAML frontmatter and Markdown instructions. Name and description are required; scripts, references, assets, and compatibility metadata can accompany the instructions.
For a useful shared skill, make the description explain the task and when it applies. Keep the main instructions short enough to read, put detailed references nearby, and state any real environment dependency. A portable folder gives clients a common structure; whether a particular client discovers and executes it still needs a client-specific test.
